How to Create and Edit a Custom Feed

Manage your identified companies with different filters by using custom feeds

Custom feeds in Leadfeeder allow users to create customised segmentation of site visitors based on their online behaviour, demographics, or other essential data.

If you love data, this is going to be your favourite feature.

Let's say you have two sales teams — one in Germany and one in England. Your German sales team can create a custom feed for German-based companies, while your English team focuses on those in the U.K.

Here's the thing - the quality of your identified companies varies widely. You might have some job seekers on your site, or your blog might attract readers from all across the globe, but you only serve the German market. Custom feeds allow you to drill down and access only the most relevant companies for each specific user.

6 Types of Custom Feeds in Leadfeeder

There are six types of filters you can mix and match to create custom feeds for buyer intent data, including:

Behavior: Actions the visitor took on your website, such as the number of pages visited.

Acquisition: How the visitor reached your sites, such as a campaign or social media

Company info: Filter based on location, industry, size, language, etc.

Dealfront activities: View visitors assigned to a Dealfront user, emailed or shared via Slack.

CRM activities: If you've integrated your CRM with Dealfront, you can create feeds based on their stage or status in your CRM.

Email marketing integrations: Integrate with Mailchimp or ActiveCampaign to see visits coming from your email campaigns.

How to Create a Custom Feed

This guide explains how to create a custom feed. This is just an example, and you should consider what sort of custom feed would work best for you.

It will take you less than 1 minute to control the quality of the identified companies you see in Leadfeeder. You can create as many feeds as you need and want! 

STEP 1: Log in to Leadfeeder. In the left panel above existing feeds, click Create custom feed. 

STEP 2: Name the feed and select if you'd like to place it within a folder.

You will then see two boxed checked by default:

  • The first automatically registers you to receive weekly updates via email about new companies identified in this feed. We'll explain notification options further in Step 5.

  • The second shares this feed with everyone who has access to this account. Without this option selected the feed becomes private: only visible to you. We'll explain sharing options further in Step 7.

Now you can select your desired filters. In this example, we have selected Page URL. This means the custom feed will filter by the URL of the page the visitor was on.

STEP 3: Customise the filter by selecting the Page URL you want to follow. We will also suggest URLs you may have already selected in the previous 30 days, if you start "type to search", then they will be deleted. If you are typing in a completely new URL, that you have not used yet, press enter after typing it.

STEP 4: Once you're happy with the Page URL setting, just click Add then Save Feed.

Please note: When setting up or editing custom feeds with multiple filters, the logic is to use 'or' within single filters and 'and' between different filters within the same feed.


For example, you could use a filter to capture visits to domains that contain: lead, feed, and app, and it would pull companies that visited any page with the domain that contained any of those terms.

If another filter is added to the same feed, such as 'location' set to 'France,' the feed would collect companies that visited the domains that contained lead, feed, or app AND came from identified companies located in France.

STEP 5: You can then set email notifications to alert any other team members who you wish to receive an email with when new companies meet your criteria. If you have left the default box checked, you will be automatically included in this list. You have the option to also get a Daily notification, or switch from Weekly to Daily.

Select the Email tab in the right-hand panel.

STEP 6: As well as notifications, you can also add automation. For example, do you want to add these companies to your CRM when they come to your website?

📌 Pro Tip: The CRM option is only listed if the CRM is connected with Leadfeeder.

Head to the automation tab. Then, select the action you want to occur and how often you want that action to be taken by adjusting frequency. You can learn more about automating custom feeds here. If you don't want to automate your custom feed, click Save feed.

STEP 7: When you create a new custom feed, the box 'Make this feed public' is checked by default. This gives all users of this account editor access to this feed.

If you uncheck this box, this custom feed will be 'Private', so only visible to you. You can choose to share it with specific users or manage permissions after saving the feed.

After saving, in order to enable other users to view this feed, you can 'Share' it with them, using the Share button at the top right of the custom feed window.

You can define who can see and edit your feed using one of three options:

  • Owner: Can add or remove users, plus edit the feed filters.

  • Editor: Can edit the feed filters

  • Viewer: Can only view the feed data

STEP 8: As the final step, click Save feed.

Go back to the list of feeds by clicking X on the upper right corner.

How to Edit a Custom Feed

Select the feed from the list in the left panel to edit a feed. From there, select 'edit feed' on the right hand side to open all feed settings. Once you are done, be sure to save your changes!

Use the edit view to modify the feed settings. You can change the filters, rename the feed, and change email notification settings.

To Delete or Duplicate the feed, select the 'Cog' symbol near the bottom of the Edit feed panel and choose which option you'd like.
