Changes to your URL, hosting, pathname structures, and full rebuilds could impact your Dealfront setup and whether or not Leadfeeder is still able to track visits.

Luckily, it's easy to keep your settings up to date and have a smooth transition by following a few simple steps

STEP 1: Update any User or Company details that need to change

This could include your company name or personal email address. You can find out more about how to edit these details in this article.

STEP 2: Add the Leadfeeder Tracker to your new site

The Leadfeeder tracking script needs to be on your site in order to track visits. If you're launching a new website, make sure that the Leadfeeder script is on there! If you aren't sure, this article can help you look for it.

If the script isn't on the site, install it ASAP! We have provided a few guides on how to install the Leadfeeder Tracker on different types of sites.

STEP 3: Set your traffic rules to track the correct site

Your Leadfeeder traffic filtering rules control all of the traffic that the Leadfeeder Tracker captures and processes on your site! You can check which rules you have set up by following this guide.

The most important part is this: The hostname rules must list the sites you have installed the tracker on and that you want to see visits from.

For example, if LeadSoftware rebranded and renamed itself DealSoftware we would need to change a few things.

First, our ‘old site’ leadsoftware.com would be renamed to dealsoftware.com and visits would be ‘redirected’.

  • Step 1: Check the Leadfeeder Tracker is still on the live site, then add dealsoftware.com to your Hostname rules, allowing visits to the redirected and renamed site to show.

Second, a new site would be created with the new DealSoftware brand.

  • Step 2: Ask your developers to add your Leadfeeder script onto the new site. Ideally you'd install this via Google Tag Manager which the developers would also need to add. Don't forget to add your Google Analytics script too!

  • Step 3: If your development team isn't able to add the scripts try speaking to your marketing team to see if they can help.

  • Step 4: Check that the script is working on the site by using the tips listed here.

Once the hostname rules are set you can also check your other traffic rules to make sure they still apply.

STEP 4: Check your Google Analytics setup

If you have our Google Analytics integration you may want to check that you are still connected to the right property. We use a free Chrome extension called Tag Assistant Legacy (by Google) to easily identify Google Tag Manager or Google Analytics on a website.

Once you identify what tags are on the live site, and you have confirmed this matches your current Analytics property, you can compare it to the view you have connected in your Dealfront settings. Navigate to Settings > Account > Google Analytics to see your currently connected properties.

If everything matches, that's great! If it doesn’t, add the new property in Dealfront using the Authenticate to Google Analytics button. You can find full instructions for that here.

STEP 5: Check out your custom feeds and automation settings

If you had any custom feeds based on your domain name or page URL you will also want to edit these.

Look for any custom feeds that may include an old domain or URL structure that has changed, or automations sending to a legacy email address. Simply click on the feed, check the filters/automations, and click edit to make changes.

Don't forget to save it!

Not every step here may apply to the changes you need to make. As they say in yoga, 'take what you need, and leave the rest behind'.
